Supporting Customers to Live
Independently at Home
Staff can only support customers by
undertaking the tasks that they have
the skills and training to perform.
Always contact your Coordinator if you
have been asked to complete a task
that is outside your skill set.
Domestic Assistance
As part of a service request you may
be asked to assist a customer with
house cleaning.
Depending on the customer’s goals,
you may work with them to complete
tasks, or work independently to
complete the tasks that need doing
that day.
Domestic assistance can involve:

Doing laundry – hanging out and
bringing in washing (or using a
clothes dryer), folding up items
and putting them away
Ironing
Cleaning floors – sweeping,
mopping and vacuuming
Making beds
Changing linen and towels
Cleaning bathrooms – mopping
or sweeping floors, wiping down
shower, bath and basin surfaces,
cleaning toilets
Cleaning the kitchen – sweeping
or mopping floors, wiping
over surfaces, washing dishes,
unpacking and stacking the
dishwasher, general tidying
Emptying household bins, taking
out rubbish and recycling, putting
out garbage bins
