Grooming tasks may include:
•
Hair care, including brushing and
combing
•
Nail and toe care, limited to the use
of cotton buds to cuticle areas and
emery boards for trimming nails:
never cut a customer’s fingernails or
toenails. Inform your Coordinator if
podiatry services are required
•
Shaving with electric razors only.
Waxing is only to be provided through
professional services. If a customer
requests waxing services, please
inform your Coordinator as
Just Better Care staff cannot assist
with this process.
Customers with higher support needs
may require:
•
Showering or bathing where the
customer has severely limited and/or
uncontrollable body movements
•
Assistance to sit or turn where
customers cannot weight bear or
can only partially weight bear
•
Bed-bathing or sponging where
the customer has uncontrollable
body movements or serious health
considerations
•
Mechanical aids to lift and transfer a
customer
•
Bowel care requiring an enema or
manual evacuation.
Complex Care Services
Complex Care or High Intensity
Supports may be required by
customers experiencing or at risk of
experiencing multiple and interrelated
conditions that contribute to a high
level of intensity of support needed.
Examples may include multiple
disabilities, severe/profound
intellectual or cognitive disability,
dual diagnosis, significant medical
conditions or significant deteriorating
health conditions, required clinical
interventions, behaviours involving
harm to self or harm to others,
communication or language barriers
requiring augmentative or alternate
communication methods.
The National Disability Insurance
Scheme (NDIS) sets out the skills
and knowledge required by NDIS
providers, when delivering complex
supports through the NDIS Practice
Standards- Skill descriptors. High
Intensity Supports as described by the
NDIS Commission include:
•
Complex bowel CARE
•
Enteral feeding and management
•
Urinary catheters
•
Subcutaneous injections
•
Complex wound management
•
Diabetes management.
