Financial considerations
The Australian Government subsidises a
range of aged care services in Australia. If your personal circumstances allow, it is expected that you will contribute to the cost of your care.
03
If you are eligible for a Home Care Package, you may have to pay:
‒ A basic daily fee; or
‒ A basic daily fee and an income-tested fee.
If you take up a Home Care Package you can be asked to pay the basic daily fee irrespective of your income. If you are unable to pay all or part of the basic daily fee, you can discuss reducing this fee with your chosen provider or apply for financial hardship assistance.
The maximum basic daily fee is 17.5% of the single person’s Age Pension.
Depending on your income, you may be asked to contribute more to the cost of your care. This is determined by the Commonwealth Government. This is known as the income- tested care fee and is in addition to the basic daily fee.
There are daily, annual and lifetime limits on the amount of income-tested care fees you can be asked to pay.
The My Aged Care website can give you an estimate of your fees.
