Flags are very important Signifiers
Burn and Bury: Let it Go That mark the Social, Cultural and Historical space
While some may believe the Confederate Flag
Is about Heritage and Not Hate
The Reality speaks Otherwise
We are in very Troubled Times
This flag can never represent
This story started many Scores Ago
The Rich diversity and Dynamic heritage of southern folk
By the Founding Fathers Where the African American Experience has played a Central Role
Many of whom may have known
Of the Toxic Contradictions Burn and Bury
That would poison the future of this great land Let it go Let it go
From a Failed Reconstruction Burn and Bury
A Compromised Civil Rights Movement The Whites over Blacks
And a Thwarted Black Power Movement
Burn and Bury
To silenced Affirmation Action
Let it go Let it go
And the countless Lynchings
Burn and Bury
Occurrences of Police Brutality The Systematic Attacks
And instances of injustices in between
We see the Consistent Resistance If We Cannot resolve the issue of the Confederate flag
To social respect and Justice Something we Can See and Touch
We are in Haunted times How can we as a nation process the complex things we can Not See?
Where Race and Blackness As We continue to fly this flag
Are debated and presented like Magic Is not only Passive-Aggressive and disrespectful
But it promotes Visual Terrorism
Tricking our Best Minds
And if Black People and sympathetic others
Are not in Constant Resistance
Burn and Bury And Protest of such symbols
Let it go Let it go Then we Run the Risk of sending the Wrong Signal
Burn and Bury The Confederate Flag flying
The Pain and The Woe The Fergusons
The Eric Gardners
Burn and Bury And the cases like Baltimore are powerful examples
Let it go Let it go That Show there is a consistent lack of respect for black people
And where there is No Respect
Burn and Bury
There is No Justice
The Stars and Bars- No Mo
And then No Peace
We are in War Times Burn and Bury
Where Racial Deflection Let it go Let it go
And White Supremacy Burn and Bury
And Privilege are on one side All that divide
And Black Poverty
And Mass Incarceration Burn and Bury
Let it go Let it go
And Double Consciousness
Burn and Bury
And on the other.
All that have died
