A YANGCAI RUBY-GROUND SGRAFFITO
‘LOTUS’ VASE
QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN IRON RED WITHIN A
SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
Each side of the vase is enamelled with a blue ruyi-border intertwined
with a lotus scroll, against a ruby-red sgraffito ground. The neck is
painted with a yellow-ground panel containing a lotus bloom on
each side, flanked by a pair of tubular handles decorated with blue-
enamelled florettes on a scrolling ground.
