           TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)

         The box is of squat form, with a
         slightly domed cover, both fnely
         carved.

          TWO STONE SEALS

           QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

         One of soapstone is carved in the
         shape of a cong with plain sides and
         fattened tortoise fnial, and the seal
         face is carved with a four-character
         inscription, shou kao bu wang,
         expressing the wish for longevity. The
         other of ‘chicken blood’ stone and oval
         shape is carved with six characters on
         the seal face, yi mo can xia, shu hang xin
         yan (‘a dash of rosy clouds, a few geese
         from the north’).
