AN INSCRIBED WUMU BRUSH POT
19TH CENTURY
The cylindrical brush pot is incised on the
exterior beginning with a seal mark, shen pin
(‘divine object’), followed by the text from
Lanting Xu, ‘Lanting Preface’, in standard
script, and ends with two further seal marks,
Xizhi zhi bao (‘treasure of Xizhi’) and Shiqu
Baoji (‘Shiqu catalogue of the imperial
collections’). The lipped mouth and foot rim
are made of tielimu.
