A CARVED DUAN INK STONE
19TH CENTURY
Of fattened and curved rectangular form,
the ink stone is carved with layered and
stylized rockwork around the irregularly
shaped well and grinding surface. The
stone of darkish-green color is inscribed,
song yun sheng mo hai (‘the sea of ink
reveals amidst pine and clouds’), and a seal
reading shan ju (mountain dwelling).
