    THREE PAINTINGS OF ARHATS

    TIBET, 17TH - EARLY 20TH CENTURY

    The frst (top left) of Ajita seated on a foliate base with his hands in

    dhyanamudra, clad in blue, yellow and pink robes and backed by a

    nimbus, with two attendant fgures and a tree to his left, all set

    within within the rocky Rishi Mountain; the second (top right) of

    Gopaka seated on a throne in heavy robes backed by a nimbus, with

    two attendant fgures to his left and a lotus bouquet behind them,

    all set within a mountainous landscape; the third (left) of

    Vajriputra seated on a throne in red and yellow robes, his right

    hand raised in vatarkamudra and his left holding a fywhisk, with

    an attendant holding a fower pot to his left, both under a tree and

    backed by mountains
