A RED-OVERLAY WHITE GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
1800-1880
The bottle is carved through the translucent red overlay to the
opaque white ground on each side with three butterfies in a row
above an arrangement of insects and fowering branches that
form a character, fu (luck), the narrow sides each with three further
butterfies.

One side is carved in relief using the dark brown marking in the Ruth and Carl Barron Collection, Belmont, Massachusetts,
stone with a fgure standing on a lotus leaf while holding a lotus no. 5286.
leaf in one hand and a box in the other, the reverse with a bird in
fight above rounded hills suggested by the banded white markings 1760-1850年 瑪瑙巧雕和合圖鼻煙壺
in the stone.
