8007 The dish is delicately worked with forty-eight narrow fluted sides with
pointed tips radiating from a slightly recessed centre and continuing
AN EXTREMELY RARE IMPERIAL on the exterior across the foot, each incised and gilt on both sides to
QIANGJIN AND TIANQI ‘DRAGON’ represent the feathers of a peacock around a central roundel finely etched
CHRYSANTHEMUM-SHAPED DISH and gilt with a scaly sinuous dragon descending through a leafy peony
spray filled with polychrome lacquer. The base is covered with a dark
JIAJING INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER brown lacquer with an incised and gilt Jiajing six-character reign mark in
MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566) a vertical line to the centre.
