The box is deeply carved through the layers of cinnabar-red,
dark green and yellow lacquered ground depicting a sinuous 盒平頂，圈足，通體剔彩備紅、綠、黃三色。蓋面中央雕一紅龍雙眼圓
dragon rising above cresting waves, flanked by peony sprays 睜，鬚髮飄揚，騰飛於江崖海水之上， 上方一「壽」字，身旁滿布牡丹
and ruyi-shaped clouds and flaming scrolls, all below a circular 靈芝紋。盒璧飾八寶，上下口沿各環錦地一圈，足沿繞回紋一周。底中

2012, lot 2096. Compare also a larger (28.5 cm.) but closely related
Jiajing example carved with same theme, illustrated in The Complete
Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum Lacquer Wares of the
Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Hong Kong, 2006, no. 135 (fig. 1).
