A DOUCAI ‘RUYI’ DISH                                                 A RARE LARGE WUCAI DISH WITH LANTERNS

DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)

The dish is decorated to the interior with a band of interlinking
ruyi heads. The reverse is painted with seven lingzhi-shaped motifs  DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)
in alternating colours.
5 æ in. (14.6 cm.) diam.                                             The dish depicts a scene of the Lantern Festival, and is painted on
                                                                     the interior with a hanging banner at the centre surrounded by

                                                                     flowers and scrolling foliage. The underside is further decorated
