Although the generous proportions and naturalistic rendering of this
bottle is unusual it is not unique. A nearly identically shaped bottle of
a similar size also in vividly hued jadeite is illustrated in Robert Kleiner
Treasures from the Sanctum of Enlightened Respect, Chinese snuff bottles
from the collection of Denis Low, p.77. A second example in stained
crystal is illustrated in A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles The Mary
and George Bloch Collection Vol 2, no 185, and a third, in purple glass
imitating amethyst is illustrated in Hugh M. Moss Snuff bottles of China
no 251. Subtle variations in size notwithstanding, each of the four bottles-
-the present one included--possess a nearly identical shape and detailing
of the grooved edges.
