A rare cloisonné enamel covered censer
Xuande mark,17th century
Of globular section raised upon three elephant head feet and supporting two additional elephant
head handles beneath the waisted neck surmounted by a fitted domical lid perforated by four
groups of four-petaled vents encircling the gilt finial cast in the form of a slumbering pachyderm, the
cloisonné ground displaying stylized patterns of grapevines rendered in polychrome hues including
notably sea-green and dark blue below similar colored vine and lotus motifs covering the neck and lid;
the base bearing the two character mark in an inlaid gilt square raised relief cartouche.
