AN IMPERIALLY INSCRIBED CARVED
CINNABAR LACQUER BOWL
QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND PERIOD
with deep rounded sides rising from a short straight foot
to a gently flared rim, finely and sharply carved to the
exterior through deep layers of cinnabar lacquer to a green
diaper ground with an imperial poem dated to bingyin year
(corresponding to 1746) and two seals reading Qian and
Long, carved around the foot and rim with a band of linked
ruyi-heads against matching diaper grounds, the foot and
base lacquered red, the base carved in relief with a six-
character seal mark within a recessed square
Diameter 11.2 cm, 4⅜ in.
