 loop handles at the shoulder, the broad sides each incised   the tail flicked over one haunch, the body glazed amber, the
 with an upright fish, raised bosses for the eyes, all under   longer fur picked out in dark brown, the beast-mask-form
 cream, apple-green and amber glazes, the recessed base   saddle bags splashed with amber, straw and green glazes

                      A SANCAI AND BLUE-GLAZED HORSE WITH
 seated on a waisted dappled rockwork stool on a rectangular   GROOM
 base, dressed in a long gown with a low neckline, cap sleeves,
 fitted bodice, and voluminous folds covering the body and   TANG DYNASTY
 legs, the pointed toes of the shoes emerging from beneath   the horse standing foursquare on a rectangular base, with
 the hemline, a shawl draped over the shoulders and falling   the head turned slightly to the left, the ears pricked, the
 across the front of the torso, the end of the shawl grasped in   cropped mane forming a fringe along the neck, a saddle and
 the left hand resting on the knee, the right hand lifted in front   saddle cloth draped over the back and an elaborate harness
 of the chest and holding a stylized flowering stem, the oval   and strapwork over the face and body, principally glazed
 face looking directly ahead and framed by long hair tied into an   in amber and with splashes of blue, the groom dressed
 elaborate topknot, applied allover with vibrant green, amber,   in a tunic, trousers, and cap, the arms suspended mid-
 and cream-colored glazes save for the décolleté, face, and hair  movement and the face turned upward, similarly glazed in

 attired with a phoenix headdress and green-dappled gown.
