 A WHITE AND GRAY JADE ‘CAT’ GROUP  QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
 QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY  the arched shaft supporting a large ruyi-form head at one
                     end and smaller panels at the center and at the opposite
 carved as a mother and kitten, the recumbent mother carved   end, collectively carved with the Eight Immortals in
 from the white portion of stone with tail curled next to the   landscapes filled with pine trees and craggy rocks, the well-
 body, the kitten carved from the gray section of the stone,   polished stone an even pale celadon color with some icy
 craning its neck, both reaching for the dragonfly between   white inclusions
 them, their tucked paws and legs detailed at the underside  Length 17 in., 43 cm
 Width 1⅞ in., 4.7 cm

 A YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE RUYI SCEPTER
 QING DYNASTY
 naturalistically carved with a lingzhi-form head issuing two
 smaller attendant lingzhi heads, the shaft modeled in the
 form of a gnarled stem encircled by leafy branches and
 smaller lingzhi heads, the yellow stone gradating to russet
 with dark inclusions from the ruyi head to the shaft
 Length 12½ in., 31.8 cm
 PROVENANCE
 Collection of Charlotte and George McDonald Goldsack,
 acquired circa the 1930s, and thence by descent.
 Compare an agate and a celadon jade ruyi scepter, both
 attributed to the mid-Qing dynasty and in the collection
 of the Palace Museum, Beijing, published in Yang Boda,
 Zhongguo yu qi quan ji / The Complete Compilation of
 Chinese Jades, Shijiazhuang, 2005, pls 178 and 179. A closely
 related celadon jade example sold at Christie’s Hong Kong,
 28th November 2017, lot 2926. See also a yellow jade ruyi
 scepter of similar design but with lotus decoration on the
 shaft, sold at Christie’s New York, 18th March 2008, lot 465.
