 supported by a pair of transverse stretchers underneath,
 the molded frame tapering to a recessed waist above a   the satin-weave fabric dyed a deep midnight-blue, the front
 lively cusped and barbed beaded-edge apron, cabriole legs   and back each applied with a square embroidered ‘white
 terminating in paw feet further raised on ball-form supports   crane’ first-rank badge, the crane soaring amidst bats and
 with claws carved in low relief  ruyi-form clouds above a roiling sea, the interior lined with a

 YOKEBACK SIDECHAIRS (DENGGUAYI)  QING DYNASTY, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY
 QING DYNASTY, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY  consisting of three joined panels of cut and uncut silk velvet,
            the center decorated with a lotus blossom surrounded by
 each with an undulating crest rail terminating in truncated   three smaller blossoms on each side, all against a velvet
 ends, set above a plain C-shaped rectangular backsplat and   red background with meandering foliate scrolls in metal-
 gently arched backposts, set into the molded frame securing   wrapped thread, bordered by three consecutive bands of
 a hard cane seat above a cusped apron in the front and plain   geometric kuilong scroll, lotus scrolls, and wan-fret
 spandreled aprons along the sides and back, the legs joined   Length 143 in., 363.2 cm; Width 38 in., 96.5 cm
