 NETSUKE OF A DANCING SHOJO

 Japan, second half of 19th century


 Depicting a drunken dancing Shojo holding a sake ladle, her red
 face inlaid in coral, the facial features finely carved. Her robe is
 lacquered in gold and decorated with various patterns in hiramaki-e
 and takamaki-e. Her hair is lacquered in bright red. Himotoshi
 through the reverse.
 HEIGHT 4.1 cm

 Condition: Very good condition with minor wear to lacquer and to
 himotoshi.
 Provenance: Austrian private collection.

 CRANES AND THREE FRIENDS OF WINTER
                     An unusual and rare netsuke depicting a standing oni, dressed in

                     and very peculiar. The skin of the larger oni is of a matte silver
