ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

My utmost thanks to Dr. Claudia Brown, my dissertation committee chair and

advisor at Arizona State University, for her guidance with this dissertation. Dr. Brown

has provided me with invaluable insight, support and knowledge that has become the

foundation for my work. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Janet Baker, Curator of Asian Art

at the Phoenix Art Museum, for her expertise in evaluating my writing and providing

valuable advice. She has been an influential mentor and confidant in both my academic

and professional careers. I am also indebted to Dr. Betsy Fahlman, who has provided me

assistance, numerous academic sources and encouragement throughout my

project. Finally, a special thanks to Dr. Julie Codell, whose suggestions, advice, and

insight have been greatly appreciated throughout the completion of this work.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the late Mrs. Marilyn A. Papp and the

entire Papp Family, who provided their countless support throughout my doctoral

career. Their generosity has granted me numerous opportunities to further my studies and

aid in the completion of my degree, especially through the Marilyn A. Papp Scholarship.

A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hong and Doris Ong, who have supported my interest in

late dynastic Chinese porcelain from the very beginning of my research. This work

would not have been feasible without their encouragement, enthusiasm and passion for

                   porcelain.

My dissertation would not have been possible without the research opportunity

provided by the Anthony L. Gully Fellowship and the Gully family. This fellowship gave
