西藏 十九世紀 思巴嘉摩黑唐卡
Sipai Gyalmo, the Queen of the World, is a popular female protector for
practitioners of the Bon religion. Although she resembles Palden Lhamo, the
wrathful Bon deity is distinguished from her Buddhist equivalent by the combination
of her six arms, three faces, and the blood-red coloration of her mule, representing
her specific form as Sipai Gyalmo Dreu Marmo. In this painting, she rides across a
sea of flames and greenish smoke imagined as ruyi clouds while being trailed by a
host of terrifying retinue deities. For other examples of wrathful goddesses painted
on black ground, see a painting of Palden Lhamo in the Rubin Museum of Art, New
York (F1997.30.6; HAR 390), in addition to another painting of Krodha Kali sold in
Bonhams, Hong Kong, 1 December 2023, lot 1834.
