           西藏 十八世紀 釋迦牟尼本生故事唐卡

This painting chronicles the previous life stories, or jatakas, of the Shakyamuni in a
single composition. Here, the historical Buddha lowers his hand invarada mudra and
is represented in a natural skin tone, contrasting with the many smaller scenes of him
as a golden figure conversing with large congregations of followers.

The style, composition, and color scheme of the following work relates closely to one
painting in the Rubin Museum of Art, New York (F1996.27.1; HAR 494), another in the
Tibet House, New Delhi (HAR 72036), and a third sold in Bonhams, Knightsbridge, 7
           Novemer 2017, lot 670.

The present thangka was positioned in Richard Blum’s bedroom and clearly had
           special significance to him.
