painted with a landscape scene with a scholar and his
attendant crossing a bridge, the rounded edges of the plaque
bordered with geometric patterns, dated wuyin the 23rd year
of jiaqing, in accordance with 1818

QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
decorated with five large floral medallions wreathed in foliate
strapwork, below bands of ruyi head and floral panels at the
rim, the base inscribed with an apocryphal Qianlong mark
31.7 cm, 12½ in.

This jardinière was probably intended to be completed in
doucai enamels. Compare a doucai-enamelled example sold
in these rooms, 20th November 1985, lot 122. Another is
illustrated in the Sekai toji zenshu/Ceramic Art of the World,
