FLORENCE DRUMRIGHT of his career in Asia. Fluent in Chinese, Ambassador Drumright lived in Beijing, Shanghai,
Nanjing, and Chongqing during the turbulent decades of the mid-20th century. In 1945
493 he was named chief of the State Department’s Division of Chinese Affairs. He was the
U.S. Ambassador to Taiwan between 1958-1962, a critical time in the area. After his
HUANG JUNBI (1898-1991) retirement from the government, Ambassador Drumright taught at several universities.
