A SMALL BRONZE 'LION-MASK' HANDLED VESSEL
MING DYNASTY
of quatrefoil form, cast with a compressed globular body rising from the four elegant pear-
shaped lobes to a waisted neck and slightly flared mouthrim, the shoulders cast with a pair
of mythical beast mask handles, the countersunk base with a six-character Xuande reign
mark within a recessed panel, the bronze patinated to a dark chocolate-brown tone
9 cm., 3 1/2 in.

CATALOGUE NOTE
It is difficult to make an unequivocal case for the vessel being Xuande mark and of the period, but in the opinion of
Ulrich Hausmann, this is probably 15th century.
