‘DRAGON’ BOULDER
㶭 䘥 QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
⋩ 䌱 of oblong form, carved in high relief with a sinuous three-clawed
ḅ 晽 dragon emerging from a billowing cloud, the face boldly rendered
ᶾ 暚 with a pronounced snout, protruding eyes, thick horns, and
䲨ġġġ 漵 elongated whiskers, all surrounded by a vigorously swirling cloud
徥 enveloping most of the creature’s body aside from a few areas
㚰 where the scaly skin or a clawed foot push to the surface, the
䲳 rising moon at one end incised with a bird, the stone a milky
㒢 white tone with patches of opaque russet, wood stand (2)
