A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER PENTAFOIL
BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The cover is carved to the centre with a pentafoil cartouche
enclosing a landscape scene depicting immortals and their
attendants bearing fruits and flowers, treading along a path
towards a terrace. Each lobe on the sides of the box and cover is
carved with a shaped cartouche enclosing composite flowers, all
reserved on a honey-comb diaper ground. The interiors and base
are lacquered black.
