A ‘HUANGHUALI’ MIRROR CASE
LATE MING DYNASTY
明末 黃花梨摺疊式鏡台
made in huanghuali throughout, comprising a folding mirror stand atop a dressing case with two drawers, each with a baitong floral plate
and a wan medallion pull, all supported on four well-shaped hoof feet, the lattice panel of the mirror stand inset with openwork panels of
chrysanthemum, peony and prunus sprigs, framing a central begonia-shaped motif, the bottom of the stand with a removable lotus leaf-
shaped support for the mirror, the collapsible stand and back support with extended dowels fitting into sockets in the frame of the case,
allowing them to operate on a hinge mechanism, the corners and edges decorated and reinforced with baitong straps
15.5 by 28.3 by 28.5 cm, 6⅛ by 11⅛ by 11¼ in.
