                                                                          18th century
                                                                          The rectangular cabinet composed of richly
                                                                          patinated huanghuali, the pair of doors of typical
                                                                          mitered, mortice and tenon construction with flush
                                                                          floating panels, the top and sides of single-board
                                                                          panels and the back of a two-plank panel, each
                                                                          door inlaid with two rectangular brass hinges and a
                                                                          brass lock plate with floral-shaped handle, the top
                                                                          panel reinforced with inlaid brass corner brackets,
                                                                          all retained by split pins, the sides with rectangle
                                                                          handles and quatrefoil back plates, the interior with
                                                                          one long drawer to the top and bottom, one shallow
                                                                          and one deep short drawer in the center, flanked
                                                                          by two short and deep corners, all with surface
                                                                          mounted fish-shaped brass drop handles, diamond
                        407                                               back-plates and huanghuali drawer linings with
                                                                          hidden dovetail joints, the base frame reinforced with
                                                                          brass strapwork.

                                                                          Of slightly tapered cylindrical form, the wood richly
                                                                          patterned with natural burls and tiny knots beneath
                                                                          undulating whorls and crests, the base tightly fitted
                                                                          with a wood plug.

                                                                          A LIMESTONE STELE FRAGMENT
                                                                          Wei Dynasty Style
                                                                          comprising the tip of the stele and depicting to one
                                                                          side in high relief two flying apsara, one to each side,
                                                                          with flowing ribboned flame-like robes, supporting
                                                                          a pagoda building with niches with Buddha figures
                                                                          with cloud surrounds, the reverse side carved in
                               408                                        low relief with two further apsara each holding an
                                                                          amphora in one raised hand and a gem in the other
                                                                          divided by a large formalized lotus at the center.
