A lapis lazuli ‘qilin’ snuff bottle
19th century
Carved in the form of a standing qilin with the head looking up and the
open jaws forming the bottle spout, the ferocious beast depicted with
meticulously incised curling mane terminating in the trifurcated tail, the
material suffused with gold flecks, coral stopper.
