A very rare Imperial yellow-ground ‘dragon’ barrel-shaped
garden seat
Jiajing/Wanli
The heavily potted stool boldly incised on the sides with one striding
five-clawed dragon glazed with a pale aubergine body with green
and brown-glazed scales and claws in pursuit of another five-clawed
dragon with a brown-glazed body embellished with aubergine and
green scales, all above foaming waves issuing blossoming and leafy
lotus stems, between two rows of brown-glazed applied bosses
enclosed by two rows of lotus scroll at the foot and top, the seat with
two further five-clawed dragons amid lotus on a yellow-glazed-ground.
