A RARE PAIR OF GILT LACQUERED WOOD LOTUS-FORM
CANDLESTICKS
18th/19th Century
Each standing on up-turned graduated lotus petal base above
lappets and a ring of circular knobs at the foot, the mid section with
a simple vertical column with four-evenly-spaced C-scroll and foliage
spandrels, below another graduated set of lotus petals centered at
the top by a seed pod and prickets, the gilding rubbed in places and
overlying a purple-red-painted and gesso ground, the bases red-
lacquered.
