Scholars have identified the decoration as luo hua liu shui 落花流
水, ‘falling flowers on flowing water’, a subject often seen in the
Chenghua period poetry, paintings and textiles. While the doucai
technique and the subject matter are clearly inspired by Chenghua
artifacts, the workmanship of the present example is typical of Kangxi
period.
A bowl of this rare shape and decoration, also with plain interior
and apocryphal Chenghua-mark at base, is in the collection of the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 2010.429 and
described as Kangxi period, published in the auction catalogue
Christie’s New York, 16-17 September 2010, lot 1381.

Porcelain Ware from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong,
1998, col. pls. 97-1 and 97-2.
