A rare and large Ming-style blue and white
hexagonal vase
Qianlong seal mark and of the period
Expertly potted, the body finely painted to imitate Ming-style ‘heaping
and piling’ on each of the six facetted sides, each painted with a
regular design of a central flower issuing from a slender curving stem
further issuing smaller blossoms and scrolling leaves, the neck similarly
painted beneath a band containing foam spouting from regularly
heaped waves and flanked by two cylindrical handles, each painted
with foliate lotus scrolls, a border of keyfret beneath the rim above
a formal floral and leafy arrangement on each side, the design also
repeated on the spreading foot.
