              Each box and cover exquisitely carved as open
              chrysanthemum blossoms, with two concentric
              bands of narrow overlapping petals radiating from
              the stamen, the stone of an even deep green tone.

              A distinguished English private collection

              The current boxes are carved similarly to Mughal-
              style ‘chrysanthemum’ dishes with rows of fluted
              petals radiating from the centre. Like the present
              lot, these are typically very thinly worked, resulting in
              the jade being semi-translucent. Compare a related
              larger spinach-green jade circular box and cover,

              Qianlong/Jiaqing
              The box and cover each pierced with a central
              lotus bloom surrounded by smaller lotuses on leafy
              stems, the stone of a deep green tone with black
