A magnificent Imperial white jade vase and cover
Qianlong
The even white stone of the finest quality and expertly carved as a
deeply hollowed baluster vase, crisply embellished on both wide
flattened sides with a medallion containing one bird in flight looking
towards another bird perched on a branch of flowering thorny prunus
issuing from rockwork wood stand, the narrow sides each carved in
shallow relief with a further prunus branch spreading upwards around
the shoulder beneath each of the loose-ring handles suspended from
a stylised mythical beast carved with scrolling wings spread outwards
over the neck, the cover and stepped hollowed finial each with key-fret
borders and bands of lappets.
