A rare Imperial Beijing enamel famille rose
yellow-ground jar and cover
Qianlong mark and of the period
The slightly flattened baluster-shaped jar finely enamelled on the
exterior with a scarf knotted tightly around the body, one side of the
scarf embroidered with pairs of fanciful insects forming medallions
alternating with pairs of peaches, all on a geometric pink ground
bordered with blue, the twisting movement of the scarf revealing the
other side with dragon and fire scroll medallions on a delicate pale
green ground, the body of the jar with peony and lotus flowers and
buds issuing from foliate scrolls on a bright yellow ground beneath
lappets each enclosing a ruyi-head on the neck, the underside with the
four characters of the mark split between two overlapping blue circles,
within a border of daisy blossoms, the cover with four peony blossoms
alternating with four fritillaries encircling the gilt finial.
