                                A FINE LONGQUAN CELADON ‘TWIN FISH’ WASHER

                                SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY (1127-1279)
                                The washer is finely potted with rounded sides rising to an everted rim supported on a
                                short foot, the interior is decorated with a pair of sprig-moulded fish, covered inside and
                                out with a thick, translucent glaze of a rich, bluish-green tone. The foot is unglazed,
                                revealing the fine, pale grey body.

                                Longquan ‘twin fish’ washers of such delicate size and fine potting are very rare. Compare to a
                                larger example (21.3 cm.) of similar glaze colour, formerly in the Linyushanren Collection, sold at
                                Christie’s Hong Kong, 2 December 2015, lot 2806.
