A WUCAI ‘EIGHT IMMORTALS’ BALUSTER JAR
19th century
The exterior painted in underglaze blue with the
Eight Immortals crossing the sea, each holding
their respective attributes and mounted on horses
and beasts, reserved on an enamelled coral-red
ground of dense foaming waves above green cliffs
and rocks, the high shoulder with a register of fish
and crustaceans below a band enclosing scattered
clusters of the three abundances to the neck.
