A GRISAILLE-DECORATED CYLINDRICAL
VASE
Qianlong four-character mark, Republic Period
Delicately enamelled to the cylindrical exterior
with a continuous landscape depicting dignitaries
and peasants at leisure under tiled pavilions and
studios within fenced enclosures, the foreground
with travelling scholars greeted by local villagers,
a further traveller crossing the river through a
footbridge leading to a thatched lakeside pavilion,
all surrounded by craggy mountains scattered
with gnarled trees and further pavilions at the
background.
