A CARNELIAN AGATE CARVING OF A FISHERMAN
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The seated fisherman is depicted resting his elbow on a woven covered basket, casted upon
with a fishing net entrapping a fish. The net, the face and bare upper torso of the fisherman
are cleverly rendered utilising the white part of the stone, while the rest is carved out of the
red section of the material.
