                           The depiction of the deer with a double gourd on its back is unusual, as the double gourd is more
                           commonly found on the back of elephant fgures in the 18th century. However another example of an
                           18th-century cloisonné fgure of a recumbent animal with a vase on its back (in this case a qilin), from the
                           Speelman Collection, Qianlong mark and period, was sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 3 April 2018, lot 3463.
