A CINNABAR LACQUER ‘IMMORTAL’ DISH
MING DYNASTY, 16TH – 17TH CENTURY
of lobed form, the interior carved through layers of red
lacquer depicting three Daoist immortals standing by the
banks before gnarled pine, below Shoulao flying on a crane,
all encircled by flowering and fruiting branches of sanduo,
the exterior similarly decorated with lingzhi and floral
branches, lacquered black on the base
