integrally cast in the form of a hollow peach issuing from a
gnarled branch bearing smaller buds and lanceolate leaves, the
circular pierced cover similarly cast with a leafy peach branch

delicately constructed with shallow everted sides rising from
a slightly recessed centre to a five-lobed rim dived by raised
ridges, the lustrous lacquer of deep brown colour
25.8 cm, 10⅛ in.

Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo, on loan, 2006-2019.
The present dish takes its petal-lobed form from the Ding
porcelain of the late Tang dynasty and demonstrates the
degree of dialogue between the Ding ceramicists and lacquer
craftsmen. Compare several related lacquer dish examples
sold in these rooms, 8th October 2013, lots 140 to 144, from
the collection of Sakamoto Goro.
