A BLUE AND WHITE MING-STYLE
‘LOTUS’ VASE, MEIPING
YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-1735)
The vase is painted in the Ming-style with
a continuous flowering lotus scroll. The
flowers are enveloped by a slender stem
with leaves, tendrils and pods, all between
a frieze of detached flowers encircling the
base and a classic scroll on the shoulders. The
underglaze-blue simulates the ‘heaped and
piled effect’.
