                                                                         ‘LOTUS’ VASE, MEIPING
                                                                         YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-1735)
                                                                         The vase is painted in the Ming-style with
                                                                         a continuous flowering lotus scroll. The
                                                                         flowers are enveloped by a slender stem
                                                                         with leaves, tendrils and pods, all between
                                                                         a frieze of detached flowers encircling the
                                                                         base and a classic scroll on the shoulders. The
                                                                         underglaze-blue simulates the ‘heaped and
                                                                         piled effect’.
