A DOUCAI ‘CHILDREN AT PLAY’ JAR
YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE-BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE
AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)
Of compressed globular form, the jar is painted with a continuous scene of ten children at
play in a garden scene, below a band of shaped cartouches alternately enclosing twin-fish
and chime, and above a moulded band imitating a terrace. The rim is unglazed.
