AN EXCEPTIONAL AND LARGE WHITE JADE ‘SHOULAO AND
CHILD’ GROUP
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
清十八世紀 白玉壽老童子
superbly worked as Shoulao and a child standing on a
rockwork base, the bearded immortal portrayed gently tilting
his head, rendered with an endearing expression below his
characteristic protruding forehead, holding in his left hand
a ruyi sceptre suspending a tasselled ornament and a long
gnarled staff in his right, the staff with an attached scroll
suspending on the reverse of the figure, the boy depicted
standing on a stepped rock and looking up at the immortal
with his arms outstretched, both figures rendered clad in
loose robes, the substantial stone of a translucent even white
colour
