Finely carved as a recumbent boy, lying in a relaxed posture wearing

expression, holding between his outstretched arms a drum, the stone 鄧德雍收藏
of even greenish-white tone with russet inclusions cleverly utilised to
accentuate the forehead, box. Early figures in jade with such design are very rare. Compare a later
6cm (2 3/8) wide (2). example, with a boy leaning against a drum, Ming dynasty, illustrated
in Exquisite Jade Carving, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong,
£8,000 - 12,000 1996, no.21, which was later sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 8 October
CNY70,000 - 110,000 2008, lot 2303.
