This fine selection of Japanese cloisonné pieces (nos. 16-33) 17
comes from an art dealer’s collection who acquired the pieces A CLOISONNÉ TEAPOT WITH HANDLE
over 15 years, most of them from Austrian flea markets, fairs ATTRIBUTED TO NAMIKAWA YASUYUKI
(1845-1927)
and estates. He developed a passion and deep understanding Colored enamel cloisonné on silver. Japan,
for the incredibly cumbersome technique of cloisonné which Meiji period
is reflected in the selection, featuring the great names of
Namikawa Yasuyuki and Namikawa Sosuke. An astoundingly fine, rich and diversely crafted
beak-spouted teapot with a movable handle, a lid
and three legs. Kiku (chrysanthemum) blossoms
on the underside, many geometrically shaped
flowers on the straight sides, reishi (longevity
mushroom) contours containing birds and tama
pearls at the top. The lid shows a very dense and
fine floral composition; the knob shows a silver
chrysanthemum.
Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845-1927) was one of the
most famous and brilliant Japanese cloisonné artists.
1886 he was awarded the honorary title of ‘Teishitsu
Gigeiin’ (artist-craftsman to the imperial household).

Condition: Good condition – one of the four silver
chrysanthemum screws is missing

A CLOISONNÉ KORO WITH BLOSSOMS AND
BUTTERFLIES IN THE STYLE OF NAMIKAWA YASUYUKI
Colored enamel cloisonné. Japan, Meiji period
A cloisonné vessel with oval cross-section on three curved
legs. The finely crafted cloisonné decorations show blossoms
and butterflies in various colors, as well as floral motifs.
Angular mouth with flat pot, light blue enamel on the interior.
Very much in the style of early Namikawa Yasuyuki works.
